A comprehensive rebuilding work carried through a penthouse originally of Classical design. Envisioned and erected by architect Lars Sonck in 1925, this historic block was the first residential building in Helsinki with a concrete post-and-beam structure. The primary spacial obstacle in the flat was a chase duct leading to the roof from a downstairs cigar room. This chase duct was adapted to be the nexus of the penthouse, being a natural attachment point for the room-height kitchen and refrigerating cabinets. The sauna and bath rooms are in a separate, doorless wing which prevents the spaciousness and internal viewing lines from being broken. The client´s significant artistic glass collection required specialized cabinets and vitrines equipped with both side and background lighting.
